The Quiet Neighbor

Overshadowed by its more boisterous neighbor to the south, Canada may often go unnoticed. However, to do so is to perform a disservice to all it has to offer. Its history of peace and prosperity has allowed the country to develop a strong social infrastructure that cares for its children and seniors. Free universal healthcare and public education form the foundation of Canada’s social welfare system that extends well-beyond to offer its residents everything from childcare benefits and generous parental leave to old age pensions and subsidized housing for the elderly.

Beyond the social support offered by the government, Canada remains an attractive destination for immigrants for several possible reasons. Politically, the country is stable and has not had to endure outside threats of terrorism by violent or radical militants. Economically, several sectors, such as services and goods producing, remain strong, contributing to a high national rate of employment. Culturally, the unique fusion of various ethnic groups has lent an air of openness and acceptance that many find welcoming.

The prospect of a new job may entice one to take a closer look at Canada, but its unique culture, solid economy and social welfare system may very well convince someone to permanently call Canada home.
