Practical Information

Daily Air Quality Reporting

Air samples are taken by the New Lisbon University (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and the Aveiro University (Universidade de Aveiro), who analyze particulates, such as ozone. A colour scheme is used to alert the public to the current condition of air quality: green means “good quality”, light green or yellow means “medium”, and red means “bad". The Portuguese Environmental Agency (Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente) provides air quality forecasts on its website. The website is available only in Portuguese, so you must look for and click on the box Qualidade do Ar (Air Quality) to access the colour index.
