Major Change in Climate

Even with efforts to cut carbon emissions, Switzerland is expected to heat up rapidly by 2050, with temperatures increasing by 2ºC in summer and 3ºC in winter. There will be less rainfall in summer and an increase of 10 percent in the winter, with snowfall reduced to only the higher altitudes, forcing changes in agriculture. This may also help to shift energy sources from oil to renewable ones, such as wind power for electricity, due to the higher demand for air conditioning in summer and less need for heating in winter.
