Largest Art Heist
The E.G. Buhrle Collection in Zurich, known best for its collection of Impressionist paintings, was victim to an armed robbery in broad daylight in February 2008, where masked gunmen stole four paintings, totalling an estimated $163 million. The works were by Monet, van Gogh, Cézanne and Degas. According to police spokesman Marco Cortesi, it was probably “the biggest art robbery in Europe.”
