Educated Population

Switzerland’s population is very well-educated. According to the Swiss Federal Statistics Office, for the year 2006/2007 there were 2.145.000 students enrolled in institutions of higher education, 48 percent of whom were women. Differences in education based specifically on gender have continued to diminish. Today, virtually as many women as men start a post-compulsory level of education and go on to complete their studies. As before, men still spend more years in education than women and they enter in greater numbers at a tertiary level.
