Practical Information

Work Day

Starting and ending hours for different jobs vary, but lunch is almost universally two hours long, between noon and 2 pm. There is also a law stating that nobody may work more than seven hours straight without a 30-minute break. Public holidays vary from canton to canton, but there are around eight or nine per year, lower than many other European countries. Full-time employees receive 20 vacation days per year, also lower than some of the neighbouring countries such as Germany with about 35 and France with 40.
