Encouraging Wind Power

The Swiss Federal Court has made a landmark ruling stating that wind farms are in the public interest. In the overturning of an earlier ruling by a lower court in support of residents of the Jura canton against a wind farm in their area, the Federal Court has paved the way for construction of more wind farms to augment the amount of renewable energy produced in the country. The Swiss Federal Energy Office would like to develop between five and ten new wind farms by 2010, covering the energy needs of up to 30.000 homes annually.
