Brief Review

Insurance

Zurich Schweiss is the largest insurance company in the world, with Swiss Re being a close second. Winterthur Group (now AXA) is the company with the largest market share in Switzerland. Switzerland has the world’s highest per-capita spending on insurance premiums overall, with each person spending an average of 7,109 CHF annually on insurance. The Swiss insurance industry is thought of as one of the safest in the world, as no Swiss insurance company has ever failed since the establishment of the first company in 1857. In 2006, the Swiss insurance industry took in 187 billion CHF worldwide, contributing more than 5% to the country’s GDP, according to the Swiss Insurance Association.

Insurance premiums are not cheap, nevertheless, health insurance is obligatory and most people also choose to obtain life insurance policies. There are over 200 registered insurance companies in Switzerland, and policies can be bought directly from them or from their designated agents.
