Theatre & Films

Most films in Switzerland are dubbed into the local language. However, it is possible to find subtitled versions of films in the original language in the larger cities, such as Geneva and Zurich. They are rather expensive, at about 16 CHF per ticket, though in many theatres there are discounts on tickets (11 CHF) for Monday showings. Many take advantage of the Ciné-Card, good for 69 cinemas in Basle, Berne, St. Gallen and Zurich. It allows for advance purchase of tickets at a discount, via internet or telephone, and tickets can be printed at home to avoid queues at the theatre. Cineman lists theatres and showtimes for films in different parts of Switzerland.

There are a number of English-language theatre groups throughout Switzerland, mostly concentrated in the larger cities. A list of them can be found on The Xpat Xchange for Switzerland website.
