Practical Information

Accomodations

Swiss students tend to live either in private apartments or at home, as most universities do not provide on-campus dormitories. Costs vary considerably, from about 370 CHF per month for a single room in Geneva to 900 CHF a month for a single room in Zurich. Shared housing is popular, as there are more people to help share the cost of utilities, etc. Check with your university’s student services office, which usually has listings for nearby student accommodations that are often partially subsidised by the university. Subsidised housing is limited, so apply to your university as soon as possible to avoid the long waiting list.

Some internet sites specialise in people searching for shared flats or flatmates. One of them is wgzimmer.ch. The student portal students.ch has classifieds for rooms and shared flats.
