Background

Studying in Switzerland

Switzerland is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for education and it is therefore an attractive destination for education and research, which is evidenced by the high proportion of foreign university students (21%) and teachers (40%). Switzerland is a multicultural country, where courses are offered in German, French, Italian and a few master courses in English. The tuition fees are comparably low and there is a high standard of living. While it’s not guaranteed, it may be possible, if you are offered a job contract, to remain in Switzerland after your graduation as long as you apply for a different residency permit allowing for gainful employment.

The State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) is responsible for matters of higher education in Switzerland.
