Airplanes
Swiss International Airlines is the national carrier, having been formed in 2002 from the insolvent carriers Swissair and Crossair. It was integrated into the German Lufthansa Group in 2005. Most major carriers fly to and from Switzerland, in addition to quite a few discount airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair. With the cost of fuel soaring in 2008, it is often cheaper to take the train than to fly, due to increasing fuel surcharges imposed on flights.
