Practical Information

Public Transportation

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the bus service PostBus AG (www.postbus.ch/ ) offer timetables both online and in book form (the official railway timetable) that include all public means of transport. By entering your place of departure and destination in the online timetable, you will be given times for local and international connections. Timetables are revised every December.

As all other transport companies in Switzerland, the SBB offers a wide selection of tickets and railway passes. Riding without a valid ticket will earn you a fine of 80 CHF. The local authorities provide information on reduced fares for transferable one-day travel passes. Children, senior citizens, families, animals, etc. are entitled to tickets and passes at reduced fares. Information can be obtained on the Internet or directly at the SBB counters in train stations. It is also possible to print out tickets at home on your computer.

Local authorities provide information on the local transport companies and the different transport associations. In some rural, sparsely populated areas without regular transport services, on-call buses (PublicCar) run as necessary. They operate door-to-door and need to be ordered by telephone. Operating hours are limited and vary depending on the area. Information and local phone numbers are available at the Swiss Portal website.
