Brief Review

Telecommunications

Swisscom is Switzerland’s fixed line phone company, and is both government and private-owned (though the government holds the majority of shares).

There are also a number of mobile phone providers in Switzerland, such as Orange and Sunrise. Before deciding which company you would like to use, it is worth comparing their services, rates and connections. The Comparis web site allows you to compare different mobile phone services to find the best one to suit your needs.

Numerous companies provide broadband Internet access in Switzerland, including Swisscom. Getting an internet connection is easy, and options include dial-up, ISDN, DSL and cable. About two thirds of the Swiss have their connection via DSL or ADSL, with the remaining third choosing cable. Bear in mind that it may take a while to get high-speed access, such as DSL, installed. You can also use Cablecom the main Swiss cable company.
