Gender Differences in Pay

A recent study by the Chartered Management Institute found a continuing gender gap in payment for men and women performing the same work. According to the study, female managers in Britain earned 10,000 pounds a year less than their male counterparts. Government statistics herald a similar finding stating women earned, on average, approximately 15 percent less than men.

Based on the Chartered Management Institute study, at this rate, it would take 57 years for women to catch up to what men are making. The study was not all gloom and doom. One positive indicator that things may improve is that women's salaries are growing at a faster clip, up 2.8 percent in 2009, compared to 2.3 percent for men.
